Canada, Inc. Part 7 – Cannabis, the NDP, Election 2019, and Unions

The NDP has a unique opportunity to capitalize on the explosion of the cannabis sector by running on a platform of unionizing the Cannabis industry in Canada. This sector has seen an explosion of very few really huge companies that were primed by the tweaks made under Stephen Harpers administration. A snapshot of the corporate marijuana-monopoly-oligarchy seedlings from that tweak in legislation is the following:

“April 2014, the Medical Marijuana Access Program was replaced by the Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (or MMPR) by Health Canada.[4] Under the MMPR, legal medical cannabis production is authorized to licensed producers whom Health Canada maintains a public database of.[40] Patients wishing to fulfill a medical cannabis prescription must register with and order from a licensed producer of their choice. To receive prescription for medical cannabis, a patient must obtain a medical document from a healthcare practitioner and obtain Authorization to Possess from Health Canada.[8] Individuals with an Authorization to Possess valid on March 21, 2014 fall under a grandfather clause and may hold a maximum quantity of dried herbal cannabis as specified by their Authorization to Possess or 150 grams, whichever is less.[41]

During the time period between the slight switch made in legislation during the the final throes of the decade long Conservative reign; they also bottle-necked the process of companies applying for permits to be part of this new structure in which production was aimed to be moved to legal corporate regulated facilities.

For a key time frame in which a significant amount of the seed money from customers was obtained; those few corporations that got in very early or bought companies that did (only around 20-30 with only a few big players) set up a situation in which they are profiting from legislation they helped craft that allowed them to take over an existing market. The rest (hundreds) were stuck in bureaucratic limbo.

These early entrants (Canopy for example) were the best positioned companies to prove themselves at the day of legalization; and they failed miserably! They created an incredibly absurd amount of packaging for something that has always just come in a zip-lock or paper bag. They charged far too much for it before legalization but still half what would be paid “on the street”. For some strains. The ones that helped, for me, anyway. After legalization they disappeared. Some returned; with a tweaked label and a doubled price. For shame!

Those early companies that offered affordable medical cannabis are the same ones that doubled the price on strains purchased for years by the customers that seeded their company with the money they grew to monopolize the legal market. The Liberals left just enough time to say they were “working on it” then legalized it a year before re-election.

That handsome bastard set in stone the corporate background hand-jibbering that goes on in these situations as the usual way of doing business. This whole sector existed for decades. Since prohibition. All legalization did under the Liberals is steal money from local economies and use it to line government coffers and corporate bank accounts.

So. Unionize. Shut down the bloody pulp mills and pipelines and cover our breathtaking country in weed plants. We can literally use every part of the plants we grow in industries that have been held back by decades of absurd prohibition. Anyone notice how Conservative leader, Andrew Scheer hasn’t said anything about messing with the new cannabis laws?

I cannot help but wonder why that is…

Is it perhaps because he spent his thirties in minor (albeit significant) positions of power; using that influence to nudge his dear leader and his cause. The leader that dodged questions as much as any lying world leader; he just did it intelligently and craftily; coldly and without any semblance of feeling or soul. Kinda like this.

Anyway; as stated earlier – Dear Leader Harper set up the situation that has played out into a corporate monopoly. Just like the dominoes that the Conservatives set up in 2014 were meant to tumble gracefully into. Poof.

What do you think is going to happen when the United States legalizes? They did it state-wise first. We did it nationally first; but we really should take care not to underestimate this anticipated economic boom of international legalization. We could perhaps maybe possibly have millions of more bails of premium organic cannabis than we could ever consume in our country ready just in case the green-rush-floodgates on the American market open up the year after our election.

Who do we want capitalizing on our cannabis market; let alone when the floodgates of money start flowing in from international buyers in commonwealth countries?

Prime the situation to benefit the individuals collectively; skilled tradespeople ready to go as soon as this grows. Skilled tradespeople with high paying production jobs as employees with extensive benefits packages and vacation time with a focus on positively contributing to our families and communities through legally enforced work-life balance and great wages by growing massive amounts of amazing pot in as micro or as macro a farm as they wish to build and work.

Then we export it.

Done.

You’re welcome.

The reason we unionize now is so that when that happens; the money doesn’t go into some shell company or into some investors fucking dividends. Fuck that. That money belongs in the same local economies that it has always existed in. If anything; a push should be made to ensure local organic cannabis is available to everyone. We must ensure that our money stays in the hands of our communities. Period.

Spent in our restaurants. Donated to charities. Encouraging entrepreneurship.

Unionize workers; pot shop and dispensary owners; but also people who work for the big corporate giants.

Remove / pardon / erase past convictions for non-violent drug offences.

Run on that platform, Jagmeet.

Doo it.

Canada, Inc. Part 6 – What is “Deferred Prosecution” and Why Does SNC-Lavalin Seek It?

wikinok-deferredprosecution

Deferred prosecution is a way for things to disappear. In a flash. By the stroke of a magistrates pen everything disappears. A fine is paid, Libya is still looted, but poof. It’s gone.

JWR was correct to refuse interfering. She just was. The Reds trump it up to her inexperience; belittling her and lessening her contribution to our democracy by upholding it. The Government needed fresh faces; new blood who are not part of the ‘old guard’ that I so fondly spoke of during the last election.

Calling things out is necessary. Ignoring war crimes is wrong. Paying a fine while those making the decisions at the time enjoy lofty retirement is immoral.

On the flip side; this is a worldwide company that has done lots of good projects on every continent; employed skilled tradespeople, managers, and administrators of all stripes and from all places. They just got a little greedy in the war department. Does that mean they should be destroyed? Probably not. Should they be banned from government contracts for a bit? Most definitely.

They can still work internationally. All of the government contracts and contractors that currently operate will still operate. Another company will bid the job and probably hire the same people to do the work. It could be perhaps legislated as such. These are government contracts and the government / judiciary are making the decisions. The work will still need to be done. A maintenance worker or a property manager that works for SNC Lavalin under contract to maintain an office building would still be required, regardless of which company bids for the job. The local employee who was the maintenance guy is still the local employee who knows that building inside and out. Assuming we’re not getting into a temporary foreign worker situation; all things should remain equal with a different company logo on the workers shirt.

A thief or a crook is never caught the first time.

They’re probably not caught the second time neither.

Why would we assume that this is the only company that operates this way? This begs the question of whether or not other companies that operate internationally on this scale should be automatically examined. Perhaps just companies that operate in certain hot-spots. Certain… places of armed dispute.

Let’s not forget that SNC-Lavalin was also involved in the smuggling of Muammar Gaddafi’s son, Saadi, out of Libya (source).

Gun Violence and Institutionalized Bigotry – by J. G. Oblivious

Irony.

May I even use that word when speaking of such an event? It seems disrespectful and wicked to use such a word to describe such a tragedy.

It’s been hours since the mosques were attacked in a commonwealth country; by a racist ethno-nationalist terrorist praising supremacy for his kind and claiming a higher station than his fellow man; all while claiming to be protecting his country from the brown people he was murdering. He claiming that they are coming to his country and doing terrorism; shooting up and invading churches…

Reminiscing on generations past; one is drawn to a picture of the native savages of the Americas in the 1500s. The reports from European conquerors as they were read back home noting Godless savages that were handsome and would make good slaves. On one hand; we have the ebb and flow of immigration of white settlers to colonies around the world. Colonists praising their rapes and massacres as noble victories over barbaric Godless tribal people. Decrying the others wherever encountered and spreading the good word. It speaks nothing of burning ancient Mayan scrolls; losing forever thousands of years of recorded history from before a time more ancient than the Christs and the Pharoahs and the Sphynx. This was a problem for the Church; physical proof proving the world was older than their worldview and power structure and accumulated wealth allows for. No mind is paid to the rich cultural histories that existed obscured from the public consciousness. This holy war has been going on a lot longer than the countries involved have existed.

Hate breeds hate breeds hate breeds hate.

On the other hand, we have powerful global organizations like the Catholic Church doing many more evil things than only the child-raping and supporting Nazism. They controlled and financed the Jesuits that burned the history of other cultures. Raping and destroying and erasing people forever. The same thing Daesh tried in the cradle.

This hatred toward others is not part of any religion.

Letting hate flourish ensures that this stuff will happen forever or until our species destroy ourselves. The video of the attack was troubling; but it’s important for people to know what these things look like. A wake up call for gun control? Maybe. Probably not, though.

The irony of all of the ramblings above is simply this: As a resident of Australia, his ancestors were probably sent there unwillingly because their homeland didn’t want them anymore. They took refuge in a place that was available to them and established Australia as a prison for the undesirables to serve out their sentences. They were forced from their homeland and built a conquerors society on Aboriginal lands. The very same lands that this lunatic now believes himself defending from those whom his delusions cause him to believe are some sort of new age Moorish conquerors.

Some of the victims of this mass-shooting were immigrants from homelands which they fled in terror to escape persecution and violence. For the first time in their lives they probably felt safe; while still healing from the post-traumatic-stress of growing up in a war-zone and then making the arduous journey of an immigrant to a safe place where they can go outside without dodging gunshots and bombs.

This shooter is from a country in which a mass shooting happened and they locked down the gun laws. As an adjunct; some news outlets reported earlier this morning that he loves the sassy cheeto. That being said; as I search right now for a news article supporting that statement… I cannot find one.

How many of these nut-jobs do you think sit around for decades amassing ammunition stockpiles; masturbating to Guns-N-Ammo magazine with Alex Jones in the background just waiting for their opportunity to crack?

This is f***ing mental, people.

No idea how to solve this. No suggestions. I have no idea. My gut for a long time has been that the proliferation of arms during the cold war ensured that we will forever live in a world in which there are more fresh-bullets than people. Probably not more bullets than ants. Definitely more bullets than people, though.

Perhaps when the insects take over after we destroy ourselves; the leftover bullets and casings will be re-purposed for some sort of abundant revolutionary building material that transforms their society and spawns a religion praising the shiny-object-bearers who crafted their new world.

*Sets down legally purchased marijuana*

Know what happens now, though?

In real-time, the United States has to watch how a country is SUPPOSED to respond to a mass-shooting.

Canada, Inc. Part 5 – SNC-Lavalin

See PART 2 first.

This whole media circus concerning the SNC-Lavalin affair is a calculated effort to occlude from the average citizen the intricately interwoven nature of Canada’s Petro-Military-Tech companies at every level of our government. This is not a new thing. This is not a Liberal or a Conservative issue. This is not a bipartisan quibble. This is a brief glimpse behind the curtain at the wizardry of the shadow oligarchy that is really in charge.

The Military Industrial Complex is the reason we have smartphones. It is the reason we have Facebook. It is the reason we have Snapchat. It is the reason the Patriot Act and every subsequent similar piece of legislation was hushed and rushed through. We now have a generation of voting adults that have no memory of what it was like to be free and to not be at war.

There are no national borders. We are many atoms in one synchronous organism hanging on to antiquated notions of separateness.

The things we do and allow to happen in Canada; things like selling arms to oppressive regimes; affect the overall balance of the Universe. There is all kinds of evidence of the social blow-back from using petro-imperial-corporate-bomb-orgy diplomacy.

There are children coming of age in Iraq that have known nothing but war. All of the reasons we went to war there; all of the cruel awful history of Saddam; the gassing; the ethnic cleansing; all of it; irrelevant ancient history to this newly 15-18 year old Iraqi man.

Her only experience in this world being an occupation by a well organized and technologically advanced international organization of occupiers whom have never provided any reason for being there that is even remotely fathomable to the masses let alone this young Iraqi or Afghan.

We are the enemy to some of them. The same kind of evil-vile-warmongering-political-terrorist-monsters that we blew up their countries searching for.

They are the blowback.

“In 2015, the RCMP charged SNC-Lavalin, along with its international division, with corruption and fraud in relation with their business dealings in Libya. The RCMP said officials at the company attempted to bribe several public officials in the country, including dictator Moammar Gadhafi, as well as other businesses in Libya. RCMP officials said SNC-Lavalin also lied to Libyan companies to defraud them of nearly $130 million.”

Canada, Inc. Part 4 – Brexit and the Commonwealth

Forget NAFTA and the TPP.

An official response to both Brexit and the Fiery Chetosaurus could perhaps be to propose a trade agreement between commonwealth nations that excluded him. Just to set him off. Surely the benefits would be felt by all of us. Having left the European Union, Britain is now legally free to propose or involve itself in a free trade agreement between Commonwealth nations (source).

There aren’t really other ways that it affects us. The Brits made their choice. We live in and die for a “democracy” or at least the idea of one.

Let it play out.

Canada is geographically the largest commonwealth nation. We are the second largest country in the world. Our philosophy and values as a nation are in a prime place to be exemplified by entering into a fair and equitable trade agreement that sets up a cohesive corruption-free institution that spans each of those countries to the ultimate benefit of the citizens of each country; not the corporations that already span them.

Canada, Inc. Part 3 – Weed

Minimal regulation other than that needed for quality control. Perhaps a gram per pound sent for pesticide testing or some such thing. It really doesn’t have to be that big of a deal. This economy has regulated itself safely for years. Piss off.

Mom & pop shops. Boutiques. Cafes. Let it just evolve and stop setting up a situation in which an economy that already existed and should have simply been legalized be swiftly over-criminalized (from a Federal Law point of view) into yet another corporate cartel giving hand-jobs to the government bank account.

The way it stands is that a corporate structure was created for a merging-and-acquiring-pot-economy-oligarchy. Y’all (The Guv’Ment) had the years before the election to research it (though there was already sufficient research to support legalization for almost always) and three years to implement it. The Blue fellers (before the last election) slightly tweaked the cannabis laws to allow for a growth in the “medical” market in a way that supported the growth of very few yet very strong early entry companies that grew under the new odd laws that super-primed those institutions for this corporate legalization that came with these corporately-connected Red fellers.

Suddenly, they just buy everything. Invest everywhere.

Merging and acquiring sends money up. Pot shops and micro-local industries that have existed for years (supporting local economies and businesses directly) are being raided because they provide medicine to sick people and good times to not sick people. It’s not a new thing. Stop pretending it is. Stop talking about it on TV. Why the fuck is marijuana all over television? We don’t have a story every third night on the news about alcohol. Why is Cannabis being discussed and pictures of massive dope farms shown on the news in a happy positive light? It’s just dope. Grass. Yerba. Smoky Smoky. It’s not for children though, you dingleberries. Are all of those impressions on children watching the Evening News after supper at family time perhaps just a little bit like advertising? We don’t have news stories on the daily about cigarettes. We do for prescription drugs though. And seemingly weed now that they can draw attention to it on the nightly news so that their companies can make money and their shareholders dividends.

Just stop.

Open market. Anyone can grow what they want and open any store they want. That’s what ye should do ya wacky bastards.

Local Organic Farms. Tourism. Hemp. Cash-Money. Locally. Dope-Hotels. Weed-Resorts. Stoner-Tours. We have this amazing, beautiful country.

It only seems ethical to do this with discreet advertising. Apps, perhaps. Online. Whatever. Places where adults are.

But not on the five o’clock news.

Not for hits and views.

Not on a Bell owned tv-station after supper with my family.

Not at all.

Canada, Inc. Part 2 – The Military Industrial Complex is Alive and Well

Fact one. Canada was not involved in the American incursion into Vietnam.

Fact two. Canada was involved in the American War in Vietnam.

How can both these statements be true? In the same way that Canadian companies continue to profit off of wars regardless of whether or not we are officially (as a country) a part of that war in a “killing other humans” capacity. A Canadian company supplied a significant amount of the rifle ammunition used in the American Incursion into Iraq.

Look what that quagmire devolved into.

Fuck it, right? Get money; get paid.

Not to mention all the Canadians who voluntarily went to Vietnam and fought alongside their American brethren with 134 killed or missing. Or the OEF/OIF combat veterans who volunteered with the YPG in Kurdistan. That organization (the YPG) later being designated a terrorist organization by the West because they compromise the interests of Turkey and the West needs Turkey’s compliance to maintain some of their power in the region. Thus mass media stops covering the death of Khashoggi or outright mocks it.

So. I mean. We’re not technically involved… but we’re also technically involved. It’s sort of like how Canada is definitely totally not at all involved in the human rights abuses being committed in Yemen with weapons we manufactured and sold to Saudi Arabia… but we kinda technically are super definitely involved by virtue of allowing it to happen.

Kinda sorta murky. Watch out Venezuela! Soon enough they’ll be calling you terrorists and invading you in the name of Freedom. Restoring your democracy. Things of that ilk. God forbid the American Military do a Goddamned thing about the narco-terrorism happening below their border for the past 3 decades.

Maybe that’s secretly what the wall is about?

Who knows.

The world’s funny like that.

Just when you think you’ve figured it out; some dirtier naughtier juicier more disturbing layer is revealed. Perhaps the wall is a preparation for a much larger impending war.

Who knows?

That is certainly one dangerous Cheeto they have down there; but the guy holding the bag is even more dangerous. Just wait.

Former Vice President Richard Cheney was the CEO of Haliburton from 1995-2000 when he left to run for Vice President (source). On September 10, 2001 – Donald Rumsfeld announced on behalf of the Pentagon that they were missing 2.3 Trillion dollars in military spending. The next day, something incredible happened and everybody forgot.

So check this historic farewell address from an exiting-President that warned of the dangers and inevitability of a permanent arms industry fueling wars for profit. Perhaps check out the poetry in the second video or continue to Part 3.
