Trudeaus x2, The Charter, and Notwithstanding Chrétien

It’s small details like the disrespect of our flag that weaken our society and allow cowards and crooks to run things.

Respect for the flag is symbolic of respect for the Charter of Rights and Freedoms we are SUPPOSED to have.

I made this exact comment to the New Glasgow Police during my filing of complaints about their false arrest of me. I made a deliberate comment to the officer taking the paperwork that it’s disrespectful to have a dirty tattered flag infront of the police station. I’ve referred to corrupt officers in our town wearing that same flag and tarnishing it with their horsecockery and lack of ethics.

Same concept. Disrespect for the flag by people in charge of shaping society and running it demonstrates a lack of understanding and respect for the underlying values we are supposed to have.

Not saying Canada/church didn’t wreck indigenous families or do other horrible shit. What I’m saying is that in our country we have the ability to stand there and protest and hold politicians accountable in ways that aren’t possible in lots of places. THAT is one reason this matters.

Most corruption in our country and community is simply buried in beauracracy. Too much paperwork and cost to get the truth out.

If we had teachers and police and lawyers and social workers and doctors that truly understood what our rights are – the tattered flags wouldn’t need reminders. This is basic elementary school social studies.

That flag wasn’t made at the founding of the country so it’s not symbolic of the colonial torture. Flag was designed and agreed upon by Canadians in the 60s. Our Charter of Rights and Freedoms was established in the 80s.

The flag is symbolic in our shift toward better values. Doesn’t make up for 60s scoop or residential schools or the forced sterilizations or forced covid vaccinations or the invocation of the Emergencies Act by little-Castro… come to think of it, the Trudeaus did all of the short list above.

Papa Pierre was the 15th prime minister of Canada from 1968 to 1979 and from 1980 to 1984. He also briefly served as the leader of the Opposition from 1979 to 1980.

Look up “The Kitchen Accord”. That involves a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the 20th prime minister of Canada from 1993 to 2003. That PM was Jean Cretien. Cretien is responsible for the notwithstanding clause. One of my conspiracy theories is that Elder Trudeau actually so wanted the notwithstanding clause but couldn’t support it publicly.

In a nutshell – some Charter rights are subject to the notwithstanding clause (section 33).

Between when the flag was made and the Charter was made law there were 17 years, of that time Papa Trudeau was PM for 11 years.

Between when the charter was codified into law and now we are looking at 40 years.

In that time-frame, the PM was either a Trudeau or a Chretien for 19 of the 40 years since the Charter was made law.

That means the same small group of insiders gave us the illusion of rights with a caveat they can make up reasons to strip you of them.

Our flag was made before our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The Charter is there to protect us but the same family / clubs in power now in Canada set things up this way. As long as they have ‘zee papers’ filled out properly, they can do anything they want. It doesn’t matter if the judge or politician approving the override of your rights just came out of a closed door meeting with the person asking them to do so (re: conduct of PM Trudeau 2 in regard to Jodi Wilson Raybould and SNC Lavalin / deferred prosecution).

It’s all fugazi.

TLDR: Anyone who disagrees with OP better come back with a valid criticism of the government instead of a lazy empty response like “It’s just a piece of fabric!!!”.

Someone commented with a photo of the Nova Scotian flag – solid. Agree. Great counter, even if sarcastic. Valid point. Our government is fugazi and our rights are pretend. Our current flag represents the rights we had before the Trudeaus and their old boys club gave us the illusion of more rights with a caveat they can disappear them when they feel like it.

Oppression is done in our country through slow painful expensive beauracracy.

Better have another “commission” or “committee”.

Fear and Loathing at Stephen’s House – Part 2: Operation Un-Elect Stephen Harper

This is the most important election of your life.

Some people think voting doesn’t matter. Those people are wrong. Young Canadians need to show up this time. It’s up to each of you to take twenty minutes out of your day and choose to vote for any party.

Just show up.

Matter. As a person. As a citizen lucky enough to have been born in this wonderful country.

It’s okay if you don’t follow politics. It’s okay. Most of us don’t. But we all have ideas about how we’d do things; things that future generations need. We need to leave our country a better place than it was when we got here.

We’ve had the same Prime Minister for a decade. A lot has changed in that decade.

How old are you now? 25? 40?

Does it matter?

Go get educated on the issues that affect you; even if it’s only one issue you feel strongly about.

Choose that; and vote for it.

Do it because it’s your right to do so as a Canadian Citizen. Do it because the laws that get passed; and the economic decisions that get made over the next four years – will affect you. They will affect your life; and the lives of your grandchildren.

So go vote. Millions of people have died to defend your right to choose your own government; to choose the present and future situation of the country you are fortunate enough to live in.

It’s time for a new approach and I think most of us side with any party that doesn’t include Stephen Harper. Most of us want Harper to fade into history (as a villain with a large pension) and be presented with a new guy.

Anybody but Harper.

The unfortunate reality is that more of you may show up; but some of you will vote for Trudeau and some of you will vote for Mulcair. Which isn’t inherently wrong… it’s simply non-strategic if we all want a non-Harper government.

Harper doesn’t need half of the votes; he just needs more of them than the party you want to win.

Despite the fact that most of us disagree with his policies; we can’t let the minor differences in the other three parties divide us. We need to ensure we all vote for the same leader together. A leader that isn’t Stephen Harper.

We need to vote in a majority government that leaves a broken and bruised Conservative party as neither the government, nor the official opposition, of this beautiful country.

That being said – it is my opinion that the most qualified person to lead Canada for the next four years is Thomas Mulcair.

Mr. Jack Layton was the right guy last time; but our generation didn’t show up.

They didn’t think it mattered.

Look what you’ve done! Eligible voters of the last election that didn’t vote!

Education is Key to Building Democracies in Developing Countries

Education is key.

Always.

If we really want to turn countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria (or any number of developing countries rife with war) into modern democracies where all people are treated equal – we need to focus on educating the population.  Period.   Focus squarely on the minds of the youth.

As it stands today, their behavioral and moral influences are fundamentally religious parents and their village/tribal elders (equally strict, if not more so).  This is not a post to attack religion.  This is a post to point out that there are these young, fertile and curious minds in small rural villages and huge urban theocracies around the world who only know the things they are told by their elders whom they respect.

They have limited access to education.

The education they may have access to is lacking in the fundamentals of modern knowledge about our world and how it functions.

Scientific things such as:

  • climate science
  • microscopic life forms
  • how germs spread
  • basic sanitation and healthcare principles
  • basic biology and chemistry
  • basic aerodynamics (What is lift and how does it affect how a plane or a bird fly?)
  • how sexual reproduction works
  • birth control
  • how gravity works
  • what the water cycle is
  • how clouds are formed
  • evolution
  • how magnets work
  • what an earthquake is
  • what causes waves
  • why the seasons change

Not to mention topics related to human history and cultural development:

  • Gender equality
  • Ancient history (an understanding which leads to understanding how all cultures developed)
  • Modern history
  • The British conquest of the world and the cultural impact on the colonies (and native populations)
  • WW1 and WW2 – the effect on society, industry and culture
  • Industrial revolution
  • Universal suffrage
  • the principles of what a modern democracy is and how it evolved

This is all pretty basic information that any intelligent person in the West takes for granted. Before seeking a solution to how to bring a peaceful, democratically elected government to some of the most un-refined places in the world; we need to understand the base of knowledge that is receiving our cries for individual freedom and democracy for all.

These are not people who understand these basic facts about our world and our species. These are people who ask the local preacher for an explanation to questions they themselves cannot answer.

We show up in largely uneducated Islamic countries shouting about freedom and democracy; but what do they hear?

Imagine a young Afghan boy asking his fundamentalist preacher what ‘democracy’ means.

Upon pondering this hypothetical; we must first ask ourselves:

  • Would his answer be favorable or accurate?
  • What resources does this boy have to check the validity of the answer he received?
  • If he sought another answer; what would happen to him if he was caught?
  • If he found another answer; what would happen to him when he brought this to his preacher?
  • What would happen if he started sharing this new information with his friends, parents or neighbors?
  • What if he started sharing this information loudly and publicly?

In my humble opinion; if we as a society could do one thing that would benefit children all around the world – it would be to educate everyone.  Adults are a lost cause.  You can’t teach an old dog new tricks – as it is said.

We CAN reach the youth.

THE PLAN

STEP 1:  Acquire thousands of tablet computers and USB flash drives (at least 32GB drives)

STEP 2:  Acquire a solar charger for each tablet

STEP 3:  Load every single Bill Nye the Science Guy episode on to each tablet (because we all know where we really learned about the water cycle)

STEP 4:  Load copies of Rosetta Stone on each tablet (http://www.rosettastone.ca/)

STEP 5:  Load as much as will reasonably fit of National Geographic magazine (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/)

STEP 6:  Load every single episode of The Nature of Things with David Suzuki (http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/)

STEP 7:  Randomly load Western TV shows on the flash drives.  Everything from Mork and Mindy to Breaking Bad.  Any assortment of full seasons; no two flash drives need be the same.

STEP 8:  Have western planes air drop these tablets all over the developing world; all over Africa and Asia; all over North Korea and anywhere where education is being held hostage by morally-defunct governments or by difficult economies.

Do the same with the flash drives in areas where some people have some access to computers but the information that they can access is highly restricted.

Give them access to our culture of freedom and equality; a glimpse through a dusty window.  A fragment of hope wrapped in the knowledge that there is a better way.

This theory of educating in remote and impoverished areas has worked.  It is repeatable and scale-able.  My interpretation is simply a little more aggressive.
